A new partnership funds outreach clinics and translational research across rural Oman.
The Mohammed Al Barwani Foundation, in partnership with the Oman Diabetes Association and Sultan Qaboos University, has launched a three-year programme to expand outreach clinics across rural Oman. The initiative will reach an estimated 8,000 people living with type-1 and type-2 diabetes who currently travel long distances to access specialist care.
The programme combines mobile clinics, community-health worker training, and a research fund for translational studies focused on managing diabetes in low-resource settings. Early results from a pilot in Al Wusta Governorate showed a 23% improvement in patient adherence to treatment plans within six months.
