Off-grid solar pumps bring reliable irrigation and drinking water to remote communities.
Twelve mountain and desert villages across Dhofar and Al Sharqiyah now have reliable, off-grid water access for the first time, following the completion of the Foundation’s solar water-pump deployment programme this quarter.
Each system pairs a borehole pump with a solar PV array sized to the village’s needs, plus a community-owned storage tank. The installations eliminate diesel costs that previously consumed up to 18% of household income in some communities, and they bring drinking-water provision in line with WHO availability standards.
Maintenance is handled locally by villagers trained through a six-week programme co-run with the Higher College of Technology — keeping the systems sustainable long after installation.
